Tom Taylor is the Chair of the NHS Counter Fraud Authority a position he has held for four years.

Born in Ashton Under Lyne in Lancashire Tom was the son of a coal miner. He left grammar school aged sixteen and began his working life in the account’s office of a local woollen mill. This gave him a good grounding in all aspects of accountancy. He progressed with roles in the finance sections of electricity and power companies across the northwest region and despite having a young family attended night school and private classes to become a dual qualified accountant.

Over his career he has worked in the energy, health, education, water, agriculture, environment, and manufacturing sectors specialising in problem solving, transformational change and performance turnaround. He has also held top positions in several hospitals including University Hospital Birmingham.

Tom knows first-hand both professionally and personally the importance of ensuring that fraud in the NHS is prevented to stop money being lost and to make sure that every penny allocated to the NHS goes to better patient care. He has more than 32 years’ experience working at Board level in the public, private and third sectors as a Chair, Non-Executive Director, Chief Executive, Finance Director and Commercial Director.

“My aim is to continue to ensure NHS CFA continues to reduce the amount of money lost to NHS front line patient services by fraud. Our key challenge will be extending our networks so that we are seen by Government and the NHS as a critical partner, particularly as a time when the new Integrated Care Board model is still in its infancy.”
