What should you report to us?
Important: Please Note:
If you have already made a report to us and do not have any new information you do not need to make another report to us. All allegations are reviewed by specialist staff. Where an investigation is required, it may need to be planned and executed carefully and looking into complex matters may take considerable time. It is likely that work being undertaken will not be apparent to you.
Important: Misuse of your NHS number:
If you think that someone else is using your NHS number, or there is an issue with your patient record, you need to report this to your GP surgery who can complete the necessary forms to have your record updated by NHS Digital.
Important: NHS Letters received in someone else’s name:
If you have recently received a letter from the NHS about someone who does not live at your address, you do not need to report it to us. You can simply mark the envelope ‘Addressee does not live at this address, return to sender’ and put it in the letterbox. It does not need a stamp.
We can take reports of fraud where the NHS in England and Wales is the victim.
Don’t worry if you are not sure about anything, or don’t know all the facts. It is still worth reporting your concerns, as it may help bring criminals to justice and improve our understanding of fraud.
If you work in the NHS, you can also speak to your Local Counter Fraud Specialist about your concerns.
