NHS Counter Fraud community entries reach Public Sector Counter Fraud Award finals

Finalists from the NHSCFA and the counter fraud community have made the final round for the prestigious Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards 2024.

The Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards are designed to celebrate the fantastic work, commitment and innovation happening every day within the public sector counter fraud profession. There was a staggering response to the awards with 90 nominations submitted from across the public sector. So, seeing the following entries from across the NHS reach the final is a fantastic achievement in itself.

Our CEO Alex Rothwell said: "This is national recognition from our peers for all the hard work and success of our counter fraud teams across the NHS and health sector. Congratulations to Tricia, Richard, Tim, Lee, our counter fraud partners and everyone involved".

Here's a quick summary of the NHS finalists below. The winners will be revealed at a gala event at the QEII Centre on Thursday 22 February 2024 at 5:30pm:

Outstanding NHS Initiative - The winner of this award will exemplify innovation, dedication, and effectiveness in tackling fraud-related challenges within the NHS:

  • NHS Fraud and Security Management Service - Innovative Approach to Risk Assessment
  • Counter Fraud Champions Network - The Development of the Counter Fraud Champion Role in the NHS

Female Pioneer of the Year – awarded to a remarkable individual whose achievements stand as a testament to her outstanding performance and the positive influence she has had on her organisation and the broader community.

  • Tricia Morrison, Director of Performance & Improvement, NHS Counter Fraud Authority

Outstanding Contribution –This peer-nominated award recognises someone exceptional - innovators, passionate influencers, and those delivering real and positive change. An individual who has been influential and has significantly contributed to making a visible difference to Counter Fraud during their career to date:

  • Lee Sheridan, Head of Gloucestershire NHS Counter Fraud Service, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Richard Rippin,Head of Operations and Engagement, NHS Counter Fraud Authority  

Outstanding Leadership - This award is for the individuals of any grade who is an effective leader, motivates others to deliver to their potential and manages projects and/or teams to deliver improved outcomes.

  • Tim Barlow, Senior Fraud Risk Officer, NHS Counter Fraud Authority
