On Tuesday 3 December, our Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer Matthew Jordan-Boyd gave online presentation to finance colleagues about current NHS vulnerabilities, particularly from technology-related fraud. He also promoted new training module to tackle the problem.
Matthew said: “My session provided an update on how the NHSCFA is using advanced data analytics to identify NHS fraud and develop tools to improve outcomes, protecting funds intended for patient care. I think it is very important that the NHS finance community see themselves as a vital part of the fraud response in the NHS as they are a critical line of defence. Therefore, their fraud related development is crucial to our collective success.”
“It also promoted our ‘counter fraud for finance professionals’ training module developed in partnership with HFMA. Hopefully that NHS finance community will find the module useful and gain from engaging and collaborating with us in this vital area.”
During the face-to-face part of conference over the following three days, colleagues from Corporate Communications, Finance, Fraud Hub, Analytical Intelligence manned a NHSCFA stand. Over the three days, NHSCFA colleagues discussed their work to tackle fraud with the NHS finance community and a wide range of other NHS bodies such as Business Services Authority, NHS Business Supply and many other public and private sector organisations that work with the NHS.
The NHSCFA was represented at the event by finance colleagues Kamran Hussain and Matthew Jordan-Boyd as well as our Associate Director for Operational Services Richard Rippin.
Paul Tiffen, Oliver Stopnitzky, Gareth Williams, Ruth Barker-Jones and John Cullen represented our Fraud Hub whilst Susan Proctor and James Boughen attended from Project Athena.
They were joined at the conference by Areej F Saeed from our Data Analytics team and Corporate Communications team members Purdy Sian Davis, Vincent Burke and Kishan Jilka.
Purdy Sian Davis, Corporate Communication & Engagement Lead said: “There’s nothing like being out there on the ground level engaging with our stakeholders. I thought the event was a worthwhile experience. Our NHSCFA stand and promotional goodies looked the part and we were positioned in an ideal spot. It was wonderful being there with NHSCFA colleagues to promote our work, seek feedback and ideas on future campaign and promotional work.
Matthew added: “The HFMA conference and exhibition was an excellent opportunity for several NHSCFA colleagues to meet with a wide range of stakeholders, so we all work collaboratively to tackle fraud across the health sector. It was also a chance to find out about the work of many public and private sector organisations that support the NHS to discuss possibly working together.”
