Being a fraud fighter - Penny Green

Penny Green, NHS Commercial Solutions tells her story about being a fraud fighter.

We are calling on everyone to 'be a fraud fighter'. No individual or organisation is immune from the threat of fraud, and the NHS is no exception. The NHSCFA estimates that fraud costs the NHS £1.27 billion each year – that is equivalent to the cost of 40,000 nurses.

Fraud is a crime that you are likely experience during your lifetime. Fraud is a hidden crime, as fraudsters use deception and target weaknesses in people and systems to make a financial gain.

You can report NHS fraud to the NHSCFA on our website or by calling 0800 028 4060 (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). All reports are treated in confidence and you have the option to report anonymously. If you are working in the NHS or providing NHS services, you can also speak to your Local Counter Fraud Specialist, who will be able to provide advice and support on NHS fraud.
