We are proud to announce that the NHSCFA Fraud Hub has won a Tackling Economic Crime Award (TECA).
The team took home the prize for Outstanding Public Sector/Law Enforcement Initiative at the black-tie ceremony in London on Friday 15 November.
The award was in recognition of the exceptional impact that the Fraud Hub teams have had on recorded local counter fraud outcomes. Performance figures for the 2023/24 financial year exceeded our expectations by some distance, with overall financial values rising by over 375% during that first year and applied sanctions overall by over 100%, whilst the value of fraud prevented due to collaborative intervention rose by over 630%.
Launched in April 2023, the Fraud Hub is a partnership initiative led and delivered by the NHSCFA in collaboration with Local Counter Fraud Specialists (LCFSs). It was devised by the NHSCFA as a new operating model, with its centralised function providing support, guidance and direct assistance to improve the overall effectiveness of local-level counter fraud work across the NHS in England.
Creating processes and functions from scratch, the teams within the Fraud Hub have worked collaboratively, both internally and externally, to establish a new working relationship with health bodies and provide direct real time support and assistance to the proactive and reactive work that is done at a local level. Representing the team on the night were Becki Boyes, Senior Fraud Risk Officer (left) and Paul Tiffen, Fraud Hub Manager (centre).
Paul Tiffen said: “Everybody in the team is delighted to have received this award, which is a clear endorsement of our collective and innovative efforts over the last couple of years.
“The TECAs are incredibly prestigious within the counter fraud community and, whilst not our sole motivating factor, this accolade shows what can be done when the NHSCFA and LCFSs collaborate.
“This is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
Also nominated, but just falling short on the night, were our Enterprise Fraud Risk Assessment team, having been named a finalist in two categories. Well done to Mark Gellard and Becki Boyes for their groundbreaking work in this area.
Congratulations to all those involved with the Fraud Hub and the EFRA team.
All that’s left to say is…TECA bow!
